About Temple History

With the divine grace and blessings of Lord Vishwanatha - The Paschima Kasi Sri Vishwanatha Temple is located on the banks of the Flint River in Flint, Michigan. Just as Lord Sri Vishwanatha at Kashi in Banaras is considered very auspicious to millions of devout Hindus; Kasi Sri Vishwanatha Temple in Flint, Michigan is considered the Kashi in the West. Special characteristics and similarities can be drawn between the Kashi Temple in Banaras and the Kashi Temple of the West in Flint, Michigan. One of the most striking characteristics that prompted a learned scholar to suggest this as Kasi of the West is – the river that flows by makes a 180 degree turn on the property, just as the river Ganges does a 180 degree turn at Kashi in Banaras, India. Numerous learned scholars and Pundits visited the site on October 22, 1982 to be part of the Prana Pratishtapana celebrations. Kasi West draws hundreds of devotees each week and several thousand on special occasions.
